1 out of 5 stars Reconditioned Homelite Gas Hedge Trimmer   December 24, 2008
P. BENDER (Cincinnati, Oh)
I needed a gas hedge trimmer because the electric ones are a lot of trouble with the cord attached to them. I saw this one and the low price persuaded me to purchase it. When it came I tried to start it up and was not able to. I tried and tried and still it wouldn't start. I finally figured out that it had a Carberator problem ( the add said it had no carb problem which was a lie). Having a little knowledge with gas engins I was able to fix the issue, some what but am still very unhappy with the trimmer. I would like to send it back but I think the postage would cause me to be more unhappy. I don't have that many hedges to trim so I will just keep the trimmer. Maybe I can get the carb problem fixed some day. I don't think I will buy any more reconditioned power tools in the future.

3 out of 5 stars Homelite "plasticstuff"   November 3, 2008
D. Smith (DE.)
I bought one for the known Homelite reputation
Well rite out of the box it did not start
Followed handle directions followed to a tee a couple times or more.
Finally after pulling the rope till my arm almost fell off it started and worked flawlessly.
Cold start for the one i have is an issue.
After it sits for awhile or the next day you have to choke the breath out of it before it attempts to start.
Finally found that the ROTO-choke (plastic)was not covering the carbruetor throat enough to give enough choke for starting from a cold start.
Replaced roto choke assembly and now it is working the way a Homelite is supposed to.
As a previous reviewer said
Be sure you have a seperate gas can for your 2 cycle oil mix. and be sure it is NOT outboard oil or 30 weight motor oil your mixing.
Be sure your mixing oil has a picture of a gas trimmer or a chain saw or specified for your trimmer.
Your mixture ratio will be 50:1
I am using 40:1 that is 3.2 oz of air cooled 2cycle oil to be mixed with 1 (one) gallon of fresh gas 87 octane ok ,but i use 89 octane.
Stabilizer also, but some 2cycle oil has stabilizer already in it.
and if your fuel has ethanol in it you can buy at walmart a marine stabilizer that is specified for ethanol mixed fuel IE;10%
Minor issues with the trimmer, but it does what i need
If you want top of the line you will have to spend alot more money.

4 out of 5 stars pleased but surprised   October 31, 2008
John Atlee (florida)
Very powerful trimmer, good contruction, strong blade but a little heavy. Have to be a strong person with powerful arms to operate for even short periods. Does the job most efficiently.

2 out of 5 stars You take your chances   October 25, 2008
B. Bishop (Nevada)
Bought two of these machines, one in late summer and one in October 2008.
The first one works fine and I love it - the second one I purchased for a friend is a dud. Won't start and you can tell that gas isn't getting into the primer. Also, you can tell it's used. In the future if I can't return it to Amazon, I'll buy it elsewhere.

1 out of 5 stars Homelite Disaster   September 30, 2008
Bernard Manderville (Maryland USA)
Factory-Reconditioned Homelite 26cc Gas-Powered MightyLite Hedge Tr (Non-CARB Compliant) #ZR40502has so far proven to be a waste of money. It does not run for more than ten minutes. The repair shop tried once to fix it, but didn't succeed so it will be going back. This is an expensive nuisance since the shop is 21 miles from my house and gas is expensive. I can only say that beware of Homelite reconditioned stuff even if done at the factory. This is the second such product I have bought and both have been problems
